Everyone wants a pool at home, but the real question is where is the ideal place to build it? You can build your pool on your roof, in your basement, indoors or outdoors. There is no right or wrong or ideal place of choice; pool placement depends on your preference and weighing the pros and cons of each location.
Indoor vs. Outdoor
Indoor pools are great to be used all year round. You will always enjoy your pool whether its dusty or raining outside. Although this comes as a benefit, you will need to make sure you build your indoor space to accommodate the pool. Use water resistant/proof materials such as paint, pvc panels for your walls and ceiling, ip68 rated lights and sockets.
Furthermore, you will need to add ventilation to your indoor swimming pool space to avoid humidity and dew accumulation. The ventilation will consist of air conditioning, exhaust fans and fresh air fans to compensate for the exhausted air. The amount of ventilation you require will depend on the volume of the rooms and the temperature of the pool. Including a heating system for your pool will require more ventilation to deal with the evaporation of heated water. Last but not least, make sure you include a lot of noise cancelling objects and materials to reduce the echo as it can be very disturbing.
Outdoor pools do not require the special attention of indoor pools when it comes to ventilation, minimizing echo, or even worrying about wall / ceiling material. With outdoor pools, you will also enjoy the surroundings and the feeling of swimming under the open sky. On the other hand, the outdoor pool will require a higher cleaning frequency to make sure the water is clean and equipment are functioning properly.
Pool Placement
After you have decided on whether to go with an indoor or outdoor pool, you will think of where to place your pool in your home or chalet. For better privacy and less exposure you can place your pool in the basement or on the roof. This will give you a beautiful secluded pool space where you can enjoy without worrying about prying eyes. You can also build your outdoor pool on the ground floor and still have that private pool feeling.
